The first week in Hamburg

Jul 30, 2013
The first week of CASTLE training in Hamburg covered essential aspects of Life Cycle Assessment like methodological background and data mining.
In a special exercise the ESRs could take first steps in their own LCA-project, which will gradually be extended over the entire training period. To lay the foundation for upcoming exercises in the second week, the ESRs learned basics about forest management in general and in Germany, and on short rotation coppice.
The theoretical knowledge was recessed on a field trip on friday, where a local forester guided our tour through various forest and management types, followed by a trip to short rotation coppice with poplar and willow in practice.
